WELCOMING MESSAGE

On behalf of the National Center for Research and Technological Development-CENIDET and the Organizing Committee, it is a great pleasure to WELCOME you all to the 11th IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics – CIEP’08, which after 12 years returns to Cuernavaca, being one of the most exciting touristic places in Mexico.

Cuernavaca, the capital of de state of Morelos, has been known for centuries as the City of the Never-ending Spring. With an altitude of 1,542 meters (5,059 feet) on Mexico's central plateau, Cuernavaca's climate is generally mild with warm, sunny days and cool nights. The city boasts of exuberating houses hidden behind their high walls and year-round blossoming vegetation and sub-tropical gardens. Cuernavaca is located in a small state rich on archeological ruins and haciendas, impressive scenery and natural spas. The opportunities for interesting side trips are many, all within less than a couple of hours drive, from the capital.

CIEP is a biannual event which was founded in 1992 by CENIDET and this year it is organized by CENIDET itself, the IEEE Morelos Section – Power Electronics Chapter and the Mexican Society of Power Electronics. The organizing committee thanks IEEE Power Electronics Society, the Mexican Society of Power Electronics, and the government of Morelos and Guanajuato.

This year the event is aimed to fostering the development of Power Electronics towards the adequate use and management of Alternative Power Sources, which is currently a mandatory strategy in order to powering the future sustainable development of our countries. The final program six technical sessions (one of them –the inaugural one- is focused on power electronics for alternative energy sources) in which 34 technical papers will be presented, which were selected through a rigorous reviewing process. The Organizing Committee would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the authors and reviewers, whose participation and interest are highly appreciated.

On Monday we will offer a Welcome Cocktail in which all the attendees and their companions are welcome.
